President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has conveyed optimism regarding the strengthening of ties between the Philippines and Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine. This sentiment was expressed during the presentation of credentials by the new ambassadors from these nations at Malacañan Palace in Manila.
In his dialogue with Colombian Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito, President Marcos stated, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries.” Rojas Garavito emphasized a shared aspiration for lasting peace and development between the Philippines and Colombia, formal diplomatic relations having been established on July 5, 1946, with approximately 100 Filipinos residing in Colombia.
Regarding Cambodia, Marcos expressed the intention to bolster bilateral relations, acknowledging an already strong foundation. He said to Ambassador Sin Saream, “I welcome you to the Philippines and I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries.” Ambassador Sin committed to enhancing cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations, with diplomatic relations formally established on August 20, 1957, and approximately 7,500 Filipinos living in Cambodia as of June 2024.
As for Ukraine, Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv assured her readiness to enhance bilateral ties. President Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ support for Ukraine’s peace efforts, stating, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace.” Diplomatic relations with Ukraine were established on April 7, 1992, with around 24 Filipinos residing there.
The engagement with the ambassadors signifies a commitment to deepen diplomatic and economic relationships with these nations, promoting cooperation and shared objectives for peace and prosperity.
