Jack Chambers, Ireland’s Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform and Digitalisation, was among the official representatives visiting over 90 cities in more than 40 countries to connect with the Irish diaspora. This visit to Argentina held particular significance, given that Mr. Chambers is only 34 years old and serves as the deputy leader of the ruling Fianna Fáil party.
During the reception hosted by Irish Ambassador Gerard McCoy, Minister Chambers expressed condolences for victims of the Bahía Blanca tragedy. He highlighted that March 17 also marks the anniversary of the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in 1992, reiterating Ireland’s stand against terrorism, an ordeal it has faced in its own history.
Emphasizing Ireland’s commitment to human rights, he acknowledged the lessons he learned from meeting the family of Patrick Rice, a former priest and human rights activist, just the previous Saturday. Chambers concluded by addressing Argentina’s substantial Irish community, noting productive discussions held with local government officials, including Deregulation & State Transformation Minister Federico Sturzenegger and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos.
