Houthi Leader Accuses Morocco of Betrayal Regarding Palestinian Support

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi criticized Morocco for betraying the Palestinian cause, labeling the government as complicit with Israel. His remarks reflect an ongoing tension between the Houthi movement, supported by Iran, and Morocco’s position. While al-Houthi acknowledges Moroccan resistance to normalization, King Mohammed VI continues to advocate strongly for Palestinian rights and humanitarian aid, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution.

In a recent televised address, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, accused Morocco of betrayal concerning its position on the Palestinian cause. Speaking on Thursday on Al-Masirah, he labeled Morocco as a “collaborator, a traitor, and complicit with the Israeli enemy.” This criticism highlights a shift in tensions between the Houthi movement and Morocco, with the Houthis attempting to challenge Morocco’s credibility in the eyes of the Arab and Muslim community.

Al-Houthi expressed dissatisfaction with Morocco’s growing economic ties with Israel, suggesting that the actions of the Moroccan government do not align with the principles of Islam and the Quran. His speech, while addressing various Arab governments’ relations with Israel, contained a particular focus on Morocco’s policies, which he believes contradict the sentiments of the Moroccan populace.

He acknowledged the Moroccan people’s resistance against normalization with Israel, affirming their “continuous movement” in supporting the Palestinian cause. In contrast, the Moroccan government, under King Mohammed VI, has consistently advocated for Palestinian rights and called for a ceasefire in Gaza amidst ongoing conflict.

King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, has been vocal in his support for a two-state solution that recognizes Palestinian statehood with East Jerusalem as its capital. During his Throne Day speech, he reiterated the importance of finding a lasting resolution to the Palestinian crisis and highlighted Morocco’s humanitarian support initiatives for Palestine.

Recently, King Mohammed VI launched a humanitarian effort to aid Gaza, dispatching 40 tons of essential supplies, including food, water, and medical assistance, aimed at alleviating the shortages faced by local hospitals due to ongoing conflicts. The shipment was facilitated through the Karem Abu Salem crossing and included critical medical supplies for treating various conditions.

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi’s recent accusations against Morocco underscore mounting tensions surrounding the country’s involvement in the Palestinian cause. While he claims that Morocco’s governmental actions are at odds with the population’s sentiments and Islamic values, King Mohammed VI has exhibited unwavering support for Palestinian rights and humanitarian efforts. The contrasting perspectives illustrate the complexities of regional alignments and the significance of the Palestinian issue in Arab politics.
