Hezbollah’s Secretary General Naim Qassem has vowed to eliminate Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, stressing the group’s military readiness during a ceasefire. He reaffirms Hezbollah’s role in national governance while claiming that armed resistance is essential due to existential threats posed by Israel. Despite a ceasefire agreement, Israel maintains positions in southern Lebanon, leading to ongoing tensions and incidents near the border.
Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem has strongly asserted that the group will not tolerate any Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, highlighting Hezbollah’s commitment to Lebanon’s defense. In a televised conversation with al-Manar TV, Qassem explained that although Hezbollah had paused operations during the ceasefire, the organization maintained its military readiness. He noted, “Over the past 60 days, Israel has committed numerous violations.”
During the discussion, Qassem reiterated Hezbollah’s determination to ensure national stability and governance, while emphasizing that security forces should possess sole authority over internal affairs. Nonetheless, he maintained that the group’s arms are essential for addressing Israeli threats, declaring, “Israel poses an existential threat, and resistance is Lebanon’s right.”
Qassem further highlighted Hezbollah’s involvement in Lebanon’s reconstruction processes, asserting that rebuilding efforts are the state’s responsibility. He emphasized that Hezbollah’s “resistance” efforts would endure as long as threats from Israel persist. The ceasefire agreement established on November 27, 2024, was intended to halt a year of violence, requiring Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, yet it has not been fully honored.
Despite the truce agreement, Israeli forces remain entrenched in five strategic locations along the border, citing threats posed by Hezbollah. Recently, a Lebanese soldier and a civilian sustained injuries due to Israeli gunfire in Kafr Kila, indicating ongoing tensions despite the ceasefire. According to the National News Agency, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center confirmed that a citizen was gravely injured in Kafr Kila due to the hostilities, which continue despite the ceasefire purportedly brokered by the US and France to stabilize the region.
In conclusion, Hezbollah’s commitment to eliminating Israeli presence in Lebanon remains evident, as articulated by Secretary General Naim Qassem. Despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement, tensions endure, marked by recent incidents of violence and Israeli military claims of targeting Hezbollah threats. Hezbollah emphasizes both its military readiness and its role in national governance, underlining their resistance as a vital component of Lebanese sovereignty and security.
