During the 14th session of the Moroccan-Saudi Joint Commission, held on March 5 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. The session, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, emphasized the necessity of respecting Morocco’s territorial integrity. Riyadh regards the autonomy initiative as the sole viable resolution to the ongoing conflict concerning the region.
This endorsement came following a meeting in Cairo between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. Additionally, on the same day, Salah Goudjil, President of Algeria’s Upper House, engaged with the Saudi ambassador in Algiers, indicating ongoing diplomatic interactions in the region.
The Saudi Kingdom praised King Mohammed VI’s ongoing efforts to affirm the identity of Al-Quds Acharif and his role as its protector, recognizing his humanitarian initiatives. Saudi Arabia commended the Sovereign’s commitment to supporting the Maqdessis through various social and humanitarian projects facilitated by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, which embodies the objectives of the Al-Quds Committee.
