India and Belgium are set to finalize a defence cooperation agreement by year-end to strengthen military collaboration and industrial ties. The Belgian delegation, led by Princess Astrid, includes representatives from over 200 companies, underscoring the significance of the relationship with India.
Francken mentioned that John Cockerill Defence, a Belgian firm, is involved in a tender to supply approximately 300 light tanks for the Indian Army, which will be adapted for operations in high-altitude areas bordering China. The firm, which has a strong reputation, is optimistic about securing this contract, collaborating with Mumbai-based Larsen & Toubro.
Prévot refrained from discussing the current situation between the United States and Ukraine specifically, although he noted that Prime Minister Modi is aware of Europe’s concerns. He emphasized Belgium’s commitment to supporting Ukraine while stating that a peaceful resolution must reflect the interests of the Ukrainian people. The need for strategic autonomy in Europe, especially concerning defense, was a central point in Prévot’s remarks.
