Vietnamese Peacekeepers Deployed to South Sudan and Abyei

The Ministry of National Defence in Việt Nam has appointed three officers to serve in UN missions in South Sudan and Abyei, emphasizing their training and past experiences. Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Thị Kim Oanh, designated as quartermaster, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Thu, appointed as a senior staff officer for training, will be integral to UNISFA. Captain Chu Tuấn Linh will fulfill the role of military observer at UNMISS. These officers are set to replace their predecessors in these significant roles. Major General Phạm Mạnh Thắng, the Director of the Việt Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, indicated that the officers have undergone rigorous training, meeting both United Nations and national defence ministry standards. Notably, Lieutenant Colonel Oanh has previous experience as a military observer with UNMISS, while Lieutenant Colonel Thu has served as a logistics staff officer at UNISFA. During the ceremony, Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Hoàng Xuân Chiến, commended the three officers for their outstanding service, emphasizing the value of their prior experiences in successfully executing their responsibilities in the missions. On behalf of her colleagues, Officer Oanh expressed a commitment to fostering teamwork, cooperating with international peers, and fulfilling their designated tasks diligently.
