The meeting’s reports revealed substantial financial commitments by the Government in 2024, including the disbursement of over 144 million Nakfa to families of martyrs and an additional 6.6 million Nakfa contributed by nationals from the Diaspora to support 1,177 families of martyrs. Furthermore, the Ministry allocated over 46 million Nakfa to support war-disabled veterans and dedicated more than one million Nakfa to assist orphans and victims of HIV/AIDS.
The meeting also reported ongoing initiatives to raise awareness regarding harmful practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and underage marriages. Encouragingly, 96% of the 2,438 labor disputes were resolved through reconciliation strategies. A robust discussion took place regarding the report’s findings and the planned initiatives for 2025. During the discussions, Ms. Gebreab reiterated the importance of prudently utilizing existing resources to tackle social challenges. She also called on regional authorities to maintain their progress in combating FGM and underage marriages, highlighting the exemplary efforts of the Anseba region in declaring itself free from FGM.
