Bangladesh Men’s Cricket Team to Tour Sri Lanka for Multiformat Series in June

Bangladesh’s men’s cricket team is set to tour Sri Lanka from June to July, including two Tests, three ODIs, and two T20Is. The tour, marking fixtures in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle, will take place across several venues, with significant importance for both teams, especially concerning preparation for future tournaments like the T20 World Cup in 2026.

Bangladesh’s men’s cricket team is getting ready for a tour of Sri Lanka this June and July. The itinerary includes two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). This tour marks both teams’ first matches in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle and will take place across several venues in Sri Lanka.

The Test matches will be held in Galle and the SSC stadium in Colombo. Meanwhile, the ODIs are scheduled to take place in Colombo at the Khettarama ground and one match in Pallekele. The T20I series will kick off in Pallekele, before moving to Dambulla, and concluding back in Khettarama, making this a pretty extensive tour.

All of the matches have been laid out as part of the men’s Future Tours Programme, reflecting the agreement on fixtures. Notably, all ODIs will be played as day-night matches. This series represents Sri Lanka’s only scheduled home series for 2025 that covers all three formats. Following these Tests, Sri Lanka will not have another Test match on their calendar until mid-2026, leading to a potential 12-month gap without such fixtures.

For Bangladesh, this is quite significant as well since they too have only two Tests lined up for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle. Aside from this series against Sri Lanka, their only other Test is non-WTC and is against Ireland later in the year. The T20I matches, however, will be especially important since Sri Lanka is set to co-host the men’s T20 World Cup with India in early 2026.

While the venues for the World Cup have yet to be finalized, Khettarama and Pallekele seem likely to host some matches, with Dambulla also being a probable venue. The excitement builds as the first Test is scheduled to start on June 17, with the last T20I match taking place on July 16.

Tour Schedule:
Tests
1st Test: June 17 – 21, Galle
2nd Test: June 25 – 29, SSC
ODIs
1st ODI: July 2, Khettarama
2nd ODI: July 5, Khettarama
3rd ODI: July 8, Pallekele
T20Is
1st T20I: July 10, Pallekele
2nd T20I: July 13, Dambulla
3rd T20I: July 16, Khettarama.

In conclusion, Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka will feature a full slate of matches, initiating the World Test Championship cycle for both teams. With critical fixtures in each format, this tour not only sets the stage for their World Cup preparations but also holds significance given Sri Lanka’s extended gap from Test matches post-series. Cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting these encounters beginning June 17.
