Vice President Jeremiah Koung has endorsed Samuel Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction for the Nimba County by-election on April 22, 2025. This follows the death of Senator Prince Johnson. Koung emphasizes the need for the Mah people to allow the Dan people participation in the election, promoting unity in the county.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung has officially proclaimed his endorsement for Samuel Kogar of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) in the forthcoming by-election set for April 22, 2025. This election follows the unfortunate passing of the prominent Nimba County Senator, Prince Johnson, founder of the MDR, in November 2024. Recently, the National Elections Commission (NEC) revealed eight preliminary candidates for the election.
In a simulcast telephone call communicated through community radio stations in Nimba, Koung, who is affiliated with the ruling Unity Party, affirmed his belief that Kogar is well-equipped to succeed the late Johnson. He stated, “I will support Mack Gblinwon, the candidate of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) in a different election but not this one. I believe Kogar has all it takes to replace the late Johnson.”
Furthermore, Koung made an appeal to the Mah people of Nimba, encouraging them to let the Dan people participate in this election. He remarked, “I am begging the Mah people! I think the Mah people should leave this election for the Dan people since we already have a Mah Senator. Let’s keep the balance to make the County stable. Let’s keep our county together and it will be in our interest.” This endorsement from Koung eliminates any doubts regarding his support for Kogar, particularly after he had opted not to endorse a candidate during last year’s by-election when Nyan Twanyen took over his senatorial position following his ascension to the vice presidency.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s endorsement of Samuel Kogar for the Nimba County by-election marks a pivotal moment for the upcoming electoral process. This endorsement aims to foster balance and stability within the county, following the passing of a prominent figure. Koung’s call for unity among the Mah and Dan people underscores the importance of collaborative governance in Nimba County.
