Ukrainian Delegation to Meet US Officials in Saudi Arabia Next Week

Ukraine and the US will meet in Saudi Arabia next week, with a delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. The meeting follows prior negotiations on a ceasefire with Russia, which recent developments have partially agreed upon. President Zelenskyy has indicated the importance of these discussions occurring at the technical team level.

Ukraine and the United States are scheduled to hold another meeting in Saudi Arabia next week, as reported by Sky News. The delegation from Ukraine will include Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa, among other officials. The specific schedule for the meeting is still pending, but the Ukrainian team is expected to depart on the evening of March 23 to commence discussions on March 24.

On March 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the meeting with American representatives will occur at the technical team level. He also noted that a concurrent meeting between the United States and Russia is planned on the same day in Saudi Arabia.

Previously, Ukrainian officials engaged in negotiations with U.S. representatives in Saudi Arabia that lasted about nine hours. The discussions focused on achieving a comprehensive ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, a proposal that Ukraine had consented to. The upcoming meeting follows Russia’s agreement to a partial ceasefire, establishing a 30-day pause in assaults on energy infrastructure, although specific details regarding this initiative remain to be finalized.

The upcoming meeting between Ukrainian and American officials in Saudi Arabia marks a significant diplomatic effort, featuring key figures such as Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Prior discussions have indicated Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate a ceasefire. The concurrent U.S.-Russia meeting suggests a strategic framework for these discussions, aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
