Kenya has launched its first data tool, the “Compendium of Environment Statistics Report,” to enhance environmental policy formulation. The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction estimates that between three to four million Kenyans face annual disruptions to their livelihoods due to these natural and human-made disasters.
Macdonald Obudho, the Director-General of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, emphasized the importance of this data tool in guiding policy formulation to address pressing issues like environmental degradation and urbanization. He stated that it will help the nation better track its environmental conservation progress and achieve commitments related to the Sustainable Development Goals and international climate agreements.
