The diplomatic clash between the United States and Venezuela revolves around the deportation of Venezuelan migrants, with the US denying claims of repatriation flights while Venezuela accuses the US of obstructing the process. This situation continues to escalate amid ongoing tensions regarding immigration and security issues.
The United States and Venezuela recently engaged in a diplomatic confrontation regarding the repatriation of Venezuelan migrants. This clash intensified after an aircraft carrying deported Venezuelans arrived in Caracas from Mexico. The situation has emerged amid the US government’s efforts under President Donald Trump to expedite migrant deportations, as highlighted in a report by Reuters.
Earlier on Thursday, a flight transported 311 Venezuelans back to their homeland, but the US State Department contested Venezuela’s assertions surrounding the repatriation flights. The Department emphasized that contrary to Venezuelan claims, no repatriation flights were occurring, urging President Nicolás Maduro’s administration to refrain from misleading the public and to establish regular weekly flight schedules.
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello confirmed the arrival of the flight, marking a total of 920 recently deported Venezuelans. He indicated that this operation stemmed from a direct agreement with the Mexican authorities, although details of this arrangement were not disclosed.
Furthermore, Jorge Rodriguez, president of Venezuela’s national assembly, expressed that Venezuela was prepared to reinstate direct flights from the US. He alleged that the hindrance to these flights was the involvement of the US State Department, suggesting an obstructionist stance from American officials.
Amid this diplomatic discord, the United States also conducted deportations of over 200 alleged members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang to El Salvador. These individuals are currently being held in a controversial detention facility, despite legal challenges raised by a US judge questioning the legitimacy of such deportations.
The diplomatic clash between the United States and Venezuela centers on the contentious issue of migrant deportation flights. Both nations exchanged accusations regarding the operations, with the United States disputing Venezuela’s claims, while Venezuelan officials assert that US actions obstruct the process. This incident highlights ongoing tensions between the two countries amid efforts to manage immigration and security concerns.
