Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel attended the lecture titled “Media Lessons of the Palestinian Genocide: Propaganda, Silencing and Informative Resistance,” delivered by prominent Lebanese journalist Wafica Mehdi. The lecture took place during the closing session of the IV International Colloquium “Patria”. Mehdi serves as the director of the Spanish-language editorial office at the pan-Arab satellite channel Al Mayadeen.
The conference also featured notable panels, including “Reprogramming the Net: Strategies to Mitigate Polarization and Hate Speech in Digital Environments,” led by José Manzaneda, and “Technologies for Emancipation: Alternative Communication and Information Sovereignty in the Global South,” presented by Jorge Arreaza and Sacha Llorenti. These discussions focused on approaches to combat misinformation and enhance communication practices.
Experts such as Pascual Serrano, Carlos Penalva, Alina Duarte, and Gabriela Rivadeneira participated, sharing insights from their respective countries including Spain, Mexico, and Colombia, along with representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Ghana, India, and Vietnam. They explored themes surrounding strategies of the global South in confronting Western information hegemony and the evolving role of media as political entities in the digital age.
