Argentina Supports Conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Negotiations

Argentina has welcomed the conclusion of peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, commending both nations’ efforts. However, Azerbaijan has launched a disinformation campaign against Armenia, making baseless accusations and imposing preconditions. Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan has confirmed readiness to sign the treaty.

Argentina has expressed its satisfaction regarding the conclusion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning their peace agreement. In a statement issued via X, the Argentine Foreign Ministry stated, “Argentina welcomes the completion of the negotiations around the draft peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan,” recognizing both parties’ efforts to find a peaceful resolution.

The Argentine ministry conveyed hopes that this process will enhance development and welfare for both nations, fostering stability and prosperity within the South Caucasus region. On March 13, the two countries announced the successful conclusion of talks related to the terms of the peace treaty.

However, following these negotiations, the Azerbaijani government initiated a significant disinformation campaign, alleging that Armenia had attacked its military positions along the border. Armenian military sources have categorically denied these accusations, which were also unsupported by any evidence from Azerbaijani officials. Furthermore, the EU monitoring mission in Armenia has reported no evidence of any border shootings.

Azerbaijan has attached several preconditions to the peace agreement, including demands for amendments to the Armenian constitution, which it falsely claims includes territorial assertions against Azerbaijan, in addition to calls for the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed the country’s willingness to proceed with signing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

In conclusion, Argentina has supported the conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations, highlighting hopes for future stability and development in the region. Despite recent disinformation from Azerbaijan and unsubstantiated allegations against Armenia, the Armenian leadership remains committed to finalizing the peace accord. It is crucial for both nations to overcome obstacles and work toward lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
