A ceasefire was announced on March 18 by both the DRC and Rwanda’s governments.
Reports suggest that former President Donald Trump is considering partnerships to develop the DRC’s extensive rare earth mineral resources. He may appoint Massad Boulos, the father-in-law of his daughter Tiffany Trump, as a peace envoy. DRC President Félix Tshisekedi has extended an offer for mining opportunities, seeking assistance in resolving the civil conflict. He emphasized the potential benefits of collaboration with the U.S. in a letter stated: “Your election has ushered in the golden age for America. Our partnership would provide the U.S. with a strategic advantage by securing critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, copper and tantalum from the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
