Ott Tänak Leads Rally Kenya After Thrilling Thursday Stages

The 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) season is currently taking place in Kenya, showcasing challenging terrain. Following the first two speed tests on Thursday, Estonia’s Ott Tänak, driving for Hyundai, leads the competition, holding a 2.4-second advantage over his nearest competitor, Takamoto Katsuta of Toyota.

The opening special stage at the WRC Safari Rally Kenya was claimed by Elfyn Evans, the current World Championship leader from Toyota, clocking a time of 3 minutes and 9.09 seconds. Kalle Rovanperä of Toyota and Thierry Neuville, driving a Hyundai, secured joint second place, both finishing just 1.5 seconds behind Evans. Tänak finished fourth after this stage, trailing by 2.2 seconds.

In a strong performance during the second stage, Tänak achieved the fastest time, which allowed him to seize the overall lead. Katsuta, who was the closest contender, initially led at the halfway mark but dropped crucial time to finish second, ending 1.1 seconds back. Gregoire Munster of M-Sport Ford ranked third, 2.3 seconds behind.

The results from Thursday’s racing see Tänak, Katsuta, and Munster occupying the top three positions overall, with Katsuta positioned at 2.4 seconds behind and Munster at 2.6 seconds. Last year’s winner, Kalle Rovanperä, is also in close contention, trailing by 3.0 seconds.

Rally Kenya will continue on Friday at 6:28 a.m. Estonian time, promising more thrilling action for fans and competitors alike.
