Team Ghana Shines at Independence Armwrestling Challenge

Team Ghana displayed stellar performance at the Independence Armwrestling Challenge, with Grace Mintah winning gold in the +80kg category, while Ghanaian athletes excelled across different weight classes, achieving multiple medals. The event, attended by dignitaries, aimed to promote armwrestling and celebrate Ghana’s independence.

Team Ghana exemplified exceptional performance at the Independence Armwrestling Championship, with Grace Mintah emerging as the star of the event. Competing in the +80kg category, she triumphed over athletes from Nigeria, Benin, and Togo, securing the gold medal. Her fellow Ghanaians, Florence Boakye and Afia Kumah, achieved silver and bronze medals respectively, completing a clean sweep in this category.

The championship, held at the Centre Point Mall in Accra, witnessed vibrant support from the crowd, including the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams. In the women’s 65kg category, Marie Rose from Benin won the gold medal, with Nigeria’s Adefunke Adeniforo and Ghana’s Mabel Yeboah securing silver and bronze medals.

In the men’s 65kg category, Wisdom Abromakyi led Ghana to another clean sweep alongside Daniel Acquah and Stephen Amoono who won silver and bronze medals respectively. Joshua Yeboah of Ghana faced fierce competition but finished atop the podium, defeating Togo’s Abdul Razak and capturing gold, with Emmanuel Tuesday earning bronze.

The 90+kg men’s category showcased Team Togo’s dominance, with Mohammed Ismael winning gold as he bypassed Nigeria’s silver medallist. Ghana’s Atindana Adams contributed to the local commendation with a bronze medal finish.

Organized by the Ghana Armwrestling Federation to honor Ghana’s independence, the event attracted teams from Benin, Nigeria, and Togo. Noteworthy attendees included Dr. Kofi Addo Agyekum, Vice President of GAF, and key figures from the government and sports community. The President of Ghana and Africa Armwrestling, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, expressed his satisfaction with the championship’s achievements. This event forms part of GAF’s commitment to enhancing the sport and discovering new talent, with plans for a Kids Armwrestling event on the horizon.
