Iran Rejects UN Human Rights Initiative, Criticizes Western Nations

Iran has rejected a UN resolution aimed at establishing a fact-finding mission. Bahreini criticized Germany and the UK for hypocrisy regarding their own human rights records. He condemned US sanctions as harmful and described the fact-finding mission as biased. He asserted Iran’s commitment to multilaterism and human rights based on its cultural values.

During the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Iran’s representative, Bahreini, expressed strong criticism of the draft resolution aimed at establishing an anti-Iran fact-finding mission. He warned that Iran would reconsider its participation with UN human rights mechanisms if the resolution were passed.

Bahreini accused Germany and the UK of hypocrisy regarding their human rights records, particularly as they continue to support Israel amidst the ongoing Palestinian crisis. He stated, “These countries, with their dark human rights histories, lack the moral authority to lecture others.”

Additionally, Bahreini condemned the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies, arguing these measures have severely deprived Iranians of fundamental economic, social, and cultural rights. He asserted that the legitimacy of the proposed fact-finding mission is rejected, characterizing its reports as biased and based on information from terrorist groups opposed to Iran.

He further emphasized that Iran does not acknowledge the mandates of the Special Rapporteur or the fact-finding mission, viewing them as instruments for political objectives rather than authentic champions of human rights. Bahreini concluded by asserting Iran’s dedication to “multilateralism and human rights, rooted in its religious, historical, and cultural values.”

In summary, Iran’s representative at the UN Human Rights Council reiterated the country’s refusal to cooperate with any resolutions viewed as biased against it. The condemnation of specific nations for their hypocrisy regarding human rights, along with the criticism of sanctions, highlights Iran’s stance on upholding its dignity and values in the face of perceived political manipulation in human rights matters.
