Rajendra Prabhulall, former Mayor of Anna Regina and a dedicated pastor, has recently passed away. He began his career as an information officer in Region Two before serving two terms as the town’s mayor. His early education took place at St Laurence Anglican School, located in Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast.
At the young age of 17, Mr. Prabhulall embarked on his teaching career, starting at Fisher Primary School in Golden Fleece in 1976. Following a transfer due to his father’s job as an agricultural officer, he taught at Port Kaituma Primary School before returning to the Essequibo Coast five years later. He continued his teaching career at Sparta Primary School and St Laurence Anglican Primary School, now Hampton Court Primary School.
In search of better remuneration, Mr. Prabhulall left teaching in 1992 to manage the Lima Fish Port Complex, where he worked for five years. Following this, he served as the Regional Information Officer for the Regional Democratic Council until his retirement in 2015. However, he chose not to retire but instead ran for mayor of Anna Regina in 2018, successfully securing re-election for a second term shortly thereafter.
In addition to his civic contributions, Mr. Prabhulall ministered as a pastor at the Voice of Faith Ministries, enriching the spiritual lives of his community. His steadfast commitment to public service and education has left a lasting impact on the town of Anna Regina.
Rajendra Prabhulall’s legacy as a dedicated educator, civic leader, and pastor underscores his significant contributions to Anna Regina and its community. His journey, from teaching to regional office to mayorship, exemplifies a life devoted to public service and the betterment of society. His passing marks the loss of a respected figure in both education and local governance.
