This capital will be utilized to establish six gateway stations throughout the country, paving the way for Project Kuiper’s operations. Amazon’s ultimate ambition is to invest up to $90 million by 2035 to enhance internet infrastructure and accessibility in various Indonesian regions.

Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Application, Meutya V. Hafid, expressed strong support for Project Kuiper, emphasizing the importance of equal access to digital technology for all citizens. “With the support of investment and innovation from the private sector, we can accelerate digital transformation and create greater opportunities for the community,” stated Minister Hafid.

In preparation for launching Project Kuiper in Indonesia, Amazon is currently obtaining operational permits and processing telecommunications licenses. Gonzalo de Dios, Global Head of Licensing and International Regulatory Affairs at Amazon Project Kuiper, underscored the goal of improving connectivity in remote areas. “We want to work with the government and local partners to provide wider internet access for the people of Indonesia,” he remarked.

In addition to its commitments in Indonesia, Amazon’s Project Kuiper is also in competition with SpaceX’s Starlink in the United Kingdom, with licensing nearing completion as of September 2024. SpaceX had previously launched its Starlink services in Indonesia with a notable visit from Elon Musk to President Joko Widodo.

In India, SpaceX has entered exploratory discussions with Vodafone Idea Ltd to potentially offer Starlink internet services, enhancing their telecommunications portfolio. Vodafone’s Chief Technology Officer mentioned the potential of satellite services to expand their reach into rural areas lacking traditional infrastructure. Notably, rivals Bharti Airtel and Jio Platforms have already established partnerships with SpaceX for similar services.

In a separate incident, the FBI categorized assaults on Tesla vehicles in Las Vegas as federal crimes following reports of cars being shot at and set on fire. Special Agent Spencer Evans reiterated the seriousness of these offenses, asserting that actions like these should not be considered justifiable. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in this instance.

Tesla has also received its first permit in California to commence its robotaxi services, which is a crucial step towards launching autonomous ride-hailing. The California Public Utilities Commission’s approval allows Tesla to operate chauffeur services, although complete approval for ride-hailing is still pending. Tesla plans to roll out this service, including the autonomous Cybercab, later this year in California and Texas.
