Ukraine Destroys North Korean Howitzers in Kursk Region

Ukrainian forces have destroyed three North Korean howitzers in the Kursk region, marking a key victory in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. These artillery systems, provided to Russia by North Korea, were camouflaged in a forest and had protective measures against drones. This operation demonstrates the ongoing military engagement and the effectiveness of Ukrainian drone operations.

Ukrainian forces have successfully destroyed three North Korean howitzers in the Kursk region, as reported by the Unmanned Systems Forces Command, according to Ukrinform. These artillery systems were received by the Russian army as military aid from North Korea and were camouflaged within a forest for concealment. The Russian forces had also installed protective structures, referred to as ‘grills,’ to shield them from FPV drones.

The operation to eliminate these self-propelled howitzers was executed by Ukrainian drone operators who identified their location and directed Ukrainian rocket artillery equipped with high-explosive and cluster warheads at them. This operation marks the second successful strike against the North Korean Koksans during the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict, following a prior strike in the Luhansk region by operators from the 412th NEMESIS Regiment just a month ago.

The M1978 Koksan is considered the longest-range artillery system in the North Korean arsenal, featuring a 170-mm gun with a firing range extending up to 60 kilometers. Originally designed to target Seoul from the northern demilitarized zone, these systems are now being employed by the Russian Armed Forces as they attempt to offset significant artillery losses sustained during the conflict. As of March 18, Ukrinform reported 76 combat encounters between Ukrainian and Russian troops, with the battles particularly concentrated in the Kursk region.

In conclusion, Ukraine’s military has dealt a significant blow to Russian forces by effectively destroying three North Korean howitzers. This action underscores the ongoing intensity of the warfare in the region, as Ukrainian forces remain vigilant in countering artillery threats and sustaining their defensive efforts against Russian attacks.
