Oumaima Smlali, the esteemed Moroccan boxing referee, was awarded the Best Referee at the recent World Boxing Championship held in Nis, Serbia from March 9 to 16. The Moroccan Royal Boxing Federation announced this accolade on their social media, praising Smlali as an “example of dedication and sporting excellence.”
In addition to Smlali’s honor, Morocco achieved notable success in the tournament. Boxers Widad Bertal and Hasnaa Larti also earned medals, with Bertal triumphing in the 54kg category and securing a gold medal, while Larti earned a bronze medal in the 81kg category.
Following her victory, Bertal expressed profound pride in winning the gold, dedicating her achievement to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people. “This gold medal is for the first sportsman, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan people, and everyone who supported me,” she commented to SNRT News. Nabil Hilmi, Vice President of the Royal Moroccan Boxing Federation, praised the performances of both Bertal and Larti while acknowledging their trials.
