Mongolian Judokas Prepare for Tbilisi’s Fourth Judo Grand Slam of 2025

The IJF’s fourth Grand Slam tournament of 2025 is scheduled in Tbilisi, Georgia, from March 21-23, attracting over 400 judokas from 53 nations. The Mongolian team, including 20 athletes, aims to achieve significant results following past successes and recent challenges in tournaments.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) is set to host the fourth Grand Slam tournament of 2025 in Tbilisi, Georgia, from March 21 to March 23. This tournament has attracted over 400 judokas from 53 countries, marking it as the largest Grand Slam event this year in terms of participants. In comparison, the Paris, Baku, and Tashkent Grand Slams featured 50, 36, and 23 countries respectively.

The Mongolian Judo team, consisting of 20 athletes, has departed for the competition, under the guidance of Head Coach Erdenebaatar Uuganbayar and assistants Nyamlkhagva Purevdorj, Boldbaatar Chimed-Yondon, and Boldbaatar Ganbat. The team comprises 11 men and 9 women, showcasing their talents across various weight categories, including athletes in the 60 kg, 66 kg, and 73 kg divisions for men, alongside participants in the 48 kg, 52 kg, and 57 kg categories for women.

Historically, Mongolia has had a commendable presence at this Grand Slam; in 2021, M. Urantsetseg and Ts. Tsogt-Ochir secured gold medals, while G. Kherlen and G. Altanbagana claimed bronze. Following a hiatus in 2022, the Mongolian team returned in 2023 with B. Erdenebayar winning gold and additional medals won by Yo. Baskhuu and B. Gonchigsuren. In the previous year, however, despite a full team of 12, they did not secure any medals, marking a challenging year for the judokas.

The upcoming Judo Grand Slam in Tbilisi marks a significant event for the Mongolian Judo team, comprised of experienced athletes and guided by a skilled coaching staff. With a strong historical performance, the team looks to build on past successes and navigate challenges as they seek to achieve notable results in this competitive international arena.
