On Monday, the China International Development Cooperation Agency expressed Beijing’s intent to assist in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. Li Ming, a spokesperson for the agency, stated that China aims to help “in accordance with the wishes of the parties involved.” Li emphasized China’s commitment to providing assistance and participating in the rebuilding efforts in Ukraine.
Li’s comments were made in response to previous remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had hinted at China’s potential role in peace restoration and reconstruction on the three-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
The estimated cost for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction over the next decade is approximately USD 524 billion. The Ukrainian government, with support from international partners and the private sector, has so far allocated USD 13 billion towards these recovery needs, as reported by a collaborative study from the Ukrainian government, World Bank Group, European Commission, and the United Nations.
