The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Paraguay (Iglesia Evangélica Luterana del Paraguay – IELP) convened its 43rd General Assembly from March 8-9 in Loma Plata, where Rev. Alceu Alton Figur was reelected to a three-year term as president. The assembly’s theme, “Guided,” was inspired by Romans 8:14, reflecting the church’s commitment to divine guidance in its ministry.
President Figur expressed his gratitude for the reelection, stating, “Being reelected to another three-year term is a privilege and a great honour.” He acknowledged the challenges of leading in contemporary society, addressing issues such as declining family values and the attack on Christian principles. He emphasized the importance of guiding God’s people under His grace, in alignment with the assembly’s theme.
Since his initial election in 2022, President Figur has also served as pastor of Cristo Rey Lutheran Church in Asunción and as the Latin America regional representative on the International Lutheran Council’s board.
The ILC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Klaus Detlev Schulz, expressed his support for President Figur, articulating that he looked forward to continued collaboration. The assembly also celebrated the formal dedication of a new Lutheran mission church in Loma Plata, which President Figur will be supporting biweekly despite its distance from his home.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Paraguay is affiliated with the International Lutheran Council, a global community of Lutheran denominations dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ based on strict adherence to Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.
