During the Third Annual Graduation Ceremony at the Ibn Abbas Islamic Centre in Mombasa, CS Joho underscored the necessity for active participation of Muslims in national politics and leadership, especially in light of the recent easing of vetting procedures for ID registration.
CS Joho encouraged the community to embrace the opportunity and register as voters, emphasizing the potential impact their collective vote could have in the 2027 elections towards achieving a Muslim President by 2032. He reiterated that unity, as espoused in the Holy Qur’an, is essential amidst divisions fostered by political rhetoric and urged that, “We must be counted.”
Aden Duale, the Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry CS, assured the Muslim community of efforts to avert policies that could harm their interests during their governance. He acknowledged that both Muslim and pastoralist communities significantly influence 20 counties and vowed to create a cohesive voting bloc to support President Ruto’s re-election.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir recognized that the movement towards Muslim unity has caused concern among some political factions. He announced initiatives to help identify and assist individuals lacking the necessary documents, stating, “We will advance this agenda not by words but by actions.”
Garissa Town MP Mohamed Dekow committed to encouraging North Eastern residents to register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections. Additionally, Bura MP Yakub Adow called for guidance from CS Joho and Duale, asserting, “There is no government in the history of Kenya that has championed the rights of Muslims like the Administration of William Ruto.” Nominated MP Abdisirat Ali commented on opposition to the President stemming from his pledge to ensure fairness and the equitable distribution of resources throughout the nation.
