Ultimately, Marquez reclaimed the lead to finish first, with Franco Morbidelli of VR46 Racing completing the podium in third place.
Throughout the weekend, Marquez exhibited exceptional performance, winning not only the main race but also the sprint held on Saturday. As a result, he maintained the top position in the MotoGP riders’ championship standings, holding a 16-point advantage over his brother Alex.
Returning to Argentina for the first time since 2019, Marquez displayed remarkable skill aside from one minor mistake, which allowed Alex to overtake him momentarily. However, the elder sibling swiftly regained first place and maintained his lead throughout the remainder of the race. The Marquez brothers have notably finished in the top two positions twice within the span of two weeks, a feat not achieved by any sibling duo in MotoGP for 76 years.
This victory marked Marquez’s 90th win across all classes, allowing him to equal the legendary Angel Nieto. Emphasizing his respect for Nieto, Marquez wore a wreath during the celebration that expressed gratitude towards the late racer. “Super happy to equal Angel Nieto and this victory is for him and his family because he was an ace. Super important for the Spanish motorcycle world … a pleasure to equal him,” Marquez remarked after the race.
Despite challenges with rear tire confidence, Marquez successfully improved his performance. “I saw that Alex was pushing, he was controlling the race. I said, ‘OK, P2 today will be OK’. But in the end, I started to feel better and better,” he noted. His next closest competitor, Francesco Bagnaia, finished in fourth place, trailing Marquez by 31 points as the season progresses.
The following MotoGP event is scheduled for March 28 to 30 in Austin, Texas, as part of the ongoing 22-round season.
