Khaan Quest 2024 commenced at the Five Hills Training Facility near Ulaanbaatar, hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces and attended by United Nations participants from 20 nations on July 27, 2024. This annual multinational exercise aims to foster regional peace and security through rigorous training focused on adhering to UN peacekeeping standards.
The exercise engages in both command post and field training, concentrating on realistic scenarios particularly involving peacekeeping operations in coordination with humanitarian organizations and host nations. The event’s opening remarks were presented by notable leaders, including Maj. Gen. S. Ganbyamba, the Chief of General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, and U.S. Ambassador Richard Buangan.
Maj. Gen. S. Ganbyamba highlighted the importance of Khaan Quest, stating, “I firmly believe that the success of Mongolian peacekeepers can be attributed to the Khaan Quest peace support operations exercise,” emphasizing its role in enhancing the competencies of peacekeepers.
This year’s iteration involved over 900 participants from countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom, among others. The training was complemented by cultural activities aimed at promoting friendship among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Emphasizing the importance of the event, Maj. Gen. Scott Winter remarked, “Our commitment to peace and security stands unwavering. Khaan Quest 24 reaffirms our dedication to upholding international law, protecting human rights, and maintaining global stability.”
The ceremony further featured traditional Mongolian music, dance performances, and soldiers in ceremonial attire. Ambassador Buangan articulated the significance of peacekeeping, noting, “Peacekeeping serves an essential purpose around the world,” underlining the necessity for preparedness and collaboration in pursuit of global peace.
