Iran Condemns US and UK Airstrikes in Yemen as Violations of International Law

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned recent US and UK airstrikes in Yemen, citing numerous casualties and violations of international law. Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei called for UN action against these attacks, linking them to broader issues in Palestine and emphasizing the need for urgent international response to humanitarian crises in the region.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally condemned the recent airstrikes conducted by the US and the UK in Yemen, particularly in the capital, Sana’a. These operations resulted in numerous casualties, including deaths and injuries among women and children. The ministry emphasized that such actions constitute a clear breach of the UN Charter and violate international laws that uphold national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry, asserted that the United Nations and the Security Council must act against these violations, as they jeopardize both international peace and security. He described the US-British military action as a continuation of their support for the genocide of the Palestinian people, aimed at suppressing support for their legitimate rights.

Baghaei also attributed regional instability in West Asia to ongoing violence and occupation in Palestinian territories, a situation bolstered by backing from the US, UK, and other Western nations, which poses a significant threat to both regional and global security. He called upon international and Muslim organizations to fulfill their legal and moral obligations in combating genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine, particularly highlighting the dire situation during Ramadan.

Following the Yemeni Armed Forces’ threats to retaliate against Israeli-affiliated vessels in the Red Sea, the US and UK launched extensive airstrikes in Yemen, resulting in at least 31 fatalities and over 100 injuries, as reported by the Yemeni health ministry. These strikes began on Saturday and extended into Sunday morning.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned recent US and UK airstrikes in Yemen as violations of international law and a threat to global peace. The Ministry associates these actions with larger geopolitical issues, particularly the ongoing crisis in Palestine. They urge immediate international action to address humanitarian crises stemming from conflicts in the region, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
