Houthi Rebels Attack US Aircraft Carrier Following Airstrikes

The Houthi rebels launched an attack on the USS Harry Truman following recent US airstrikes, marking a significant escalation in US-Houthi tensions. The strikes targeted Houthi leaders, resulting in numerous casualties. President Trump issued a stern warning to both the Houthis and Iran, emphasizing the need to halt aggression or face severe repercussions.

On March 16, the Houthi rebels in Yemen reported an attack on the United States aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea. This incident followed US airstrikes against the Houthis which resulted in numerous casualties, prompting the rebels to declare, “In response to this (US) aggression, the armed forces conducted a military operation… targeting the US aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships.” The Houthis claimed to have launched 18 missiles and a drone during the assault.

The US airstrikes were notable as they marked the first direct military action against the Houthis since President Donald Trump’s return to office in January. The White House confirmed the elimination of several Houthi leaders in these strikes, which reportedly resulted in at least 31 fatalities and over 100 injuries, according to the Yemeni rebels’ health ministry.

Michael Waltz, the US National Security Advisor, stated that the strikes specifically targeted multiple Houthi leaders. He emphasized that the US would hold both the Houthis and their Iranian supporters accountable, warning of possible military action against Iranian assets: “If that means their targeting ships that they have put in to help, those targets will be on the table too.”

In a separate statement, President Trump issued a stern warning via Truth Social, declaring, “YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” He also cautioned Iran against supporting the Houthis, asserting that America would hold them completely accountable for any threats to its people or global shipping lanes.

The tensions between the US and the Houthi rebels have escalated significantly following recent airstrikes and military actions. The Houthis retaliated by attacking the USS Harry Truman, which they claim was in response to US aggression. The situation has drawn strong warnings from both US officials and President Trump, highlighting the ongoing conflict and the potential consequences of continued hostilities between the involved parties.
