In response to worsening social and economic conditions, President Dina Boluarte’s administration in Peru has increasingly adopted right-wing policies. Economy Minister José Salardi recently advocated for a “deregulatory shock” aimed at attracting private investment, which includes changes to labor legislation and austerity measures. These policies are anticipated to reduce living standards for the majority of the population.
The situation in Peru reflects a growing crisis driven by governmental unpopularity, economic mismanagement, and social unrest. The Boluarte regime’s reliance on repression and dubious economic strategies can only exacerbate existing inequities. An independent working-class movement is essential to challenge the current political landscape and pursue a genuine socialist agenda.
