Malaysia will host the Regional Summer Academy and the International Conference on Governance and Integrity in July, focusing on anti-corruption and governance best practices. Minister Azalina highlighted the importance of these initiatives during her recent visit to Vienna, promoting international cooperation and legal reforms.
On March 14, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Legal and Institutional Reforms, announced Malaysia’s role as host for two prominent international events in July. The first event, the Regional Summer Academy (RSA), will take place from July 11 to 14, co-hosted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA). The second event is the International Conference on Governance and Integrity, scheduled for July 15, organized by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department in collaboration with MACC, IACA, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
According to Azalina, these initiatives will serve as significant platforms for discussing governance best practices and anti-corruption efforts, while also strengthening integrity and oversight in administration. She noted that these programmes were detailed during the IACA Bureau Meeting held in Vienna, Austria, which she chaired. The Bureau meeting, attended by various officials, aims to oversee IACA’s administrative direction including strategic, financial, and human resource management.
As the head of the Assembly of Parties Bureau, which comprises 77 countries and four international organizations, Azalina highlighted the critical role such meetings play in developing IACA policies. The agenda also included preparations for the upcoming 14th Session of the Assembly of Parties later in the year.
During her visit, Azalina engaged in discussions with Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), regarding Malaysia’s intention to adopt the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. This move is part of the country’s commitment to align its insolvency framework with global best practices and enhance legal effectiveness in line with ASEAN’s regional cooperation objectives.
In summary, Malaysia will host two important international programmes in July focused on governance and anti-corruption. The Regional Summer Academy and the International Conference on Governance and Integrity are aimed at encouraging collaboration among nations. Datuk Seri Azalina emphasizes Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing legal practices and promoting regional cooperation in line with international standards.
