His wife supports him, emphasizing youth employment and accountability in governance. The internal nomination for the NLD will take place by April 2025.

Doyo Hassani Doyo, a member of the Nation League for Democracy (NLD), has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the United Republic of Tanzania in the upcoming 2025 General Election. His announcement was made on March 14, 2025, during a press conference in Morogoro, where he laid out his 10 key priorities aimed at addressing national issues. Doyo aims to challenge incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan, endorsed by the ruling CCM, and ACT-Wazalendo’s party leader, Dorothy Semu.

Among Mr. Doyo’s primary concerns are unemployment, education, and the transformation of agriculture and livestock sectors. He further emphasizes enhancing water resources, combating corruption, and promoting responsible taxation. During his speech, he stated, “I have announced my intention to run for president in the forthcoming General Election. My priorities reflect the challenges our nation is facing. If I’m nominated as the presidential flag bearer for my party, I will focus on closing tax evasion loopholes, fighting corruption, and building a tax-paying culture at all levels of society.”

Mr. Doyo also plans to strengthen the mining sector, enhance access to technology, promote girls’ education, and reinforce the union between Mainland Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Additionally, he intends to invigorate the private sector to enhance productivity in both governmental and social sectors. His wife, Ms. Halima Rajabu, expressed unwavering support for his presidential aspirations, highlighting the critical importance of addressing youth employment and health sector improvements.

Ms. Rajabu stated that addressing corruption is urgent and affirmed her confidence in her husband’s capability to hold public servants accountable, especially those involved in significant government projects. She praised past Tanzanian leaders for their decisive actions against corruption and acknowledged President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership adjustments to tackle development challenges.

Mr. Doyo’s campaign manager, Mr. Twaha Saidi Mngatwa, confirmed that Mr. Doyo plans to submit his application to the party by March 21, 2025. The NLD will conduct its internal nomination process on April 10, 2025, to officially select its candidate for the presidential election, subject to endorsement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Doyo Hassani Doyo has pronounced his presidential candidacy, establishing critical priorities intended to address Tanzania’s pressing issues. His focus on unemployment, education, agricultural transformation, and combating corruption resonates with the nation’s challenges. Support from his wife and confirmation from his campaign manager underscore his determination. The upcoming nomination process will determine his official candidacy for the October 2025 General Election against established contenders.
