The SGA election results for 2025 were announced, with Faith Geistweidt elected as the uncontested president and Crispus Ankomah as vice president. Emphasizing transparency and engagement, Geistweidt plans to utilize social media for communication. The new term will begin on May 1.
The results for the Student Government Association (SGA) elections for 2025 were announced through a live stream on Thursday afternoon, following the suspension of Texas Tech activities a day earlier. Crispus Ankomah, a master’s student in history from Ghana, has won the contested seat for graduate vice president, while Faith Geistweidt, a junior majoring in agriculture and applied economics from Fredericksburg, was elected as the student body president without opposition.
President-elect Faith Geistweidt expressed her commitment to fostering transparency between the SGA and the student body. She aims to effectively communicate SGA activities and initiatives, particularly through social media platforms. “Being able to tell students what Student Government Association is doing — whether that’s the Student Senate or on the executive side — is really important for students to know,” Geistweidt remarked.
In light of declining senator retention and recruitment, Geistweidt highlighted that Internal Vice President-elect Madeline Clark will prioritize retaining student senators and promoting transparency with students. They are also considering introducing incentives such as early class registration or scholarships for student senators to enhance participation and commitment.
Geistweidt emphasized the necessity of transparency regarding SGA’s functions, stating, “if students don’t know that a senator passed a piece of legislation putting something as small as a coffee vending machine in the building that they’re in all day, then they’re not aware that Student Government did that for them.” The official term for Geistweidt and the 61st session will commence on May 1.
Additionally, the elected executive officers include Jackson Bentley as External Vice President and Madeline Clark as Internal Vice President. The senatorial results reveal a diverse group of elected representatives from various colleges, including many from the College of Arts & Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, and Business, among others.
The 2025 SGA election results underline a commitment to transparency and student engagement within Texas Tech University. With Faith Geistweidt as the new student body president and Crispus Ankomah as graduate vice president, the leadership is poised to prioritize communication and retention of student senators. The upcoming term promises to foster a collaborative environment and ensure students are informed and involved in SGA initiatives, beginning officially on May 1.
