Yango, the ride-hailing service from Yandex, has generated 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since 2021, with ongoing expansion aimed at improving transport solutions. Country Manager Clovis Pilla highlights partnerships with local transport companies and plans for future growth despite past operational challenges.
Yango, a ride-hailing service by Yandex, has reportedly created over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since its launch in 2021. Clovis Pilla, the Country Manager for Yango in Cameroon, emphasized that the platform provides significant contributions to the country’s economic and digital growth, asserting that more than 150 local transport companies collaborate with Yango, thereby generating additional job prospects.
Currently operational in Douala and Yaoundé, Yango expanded its services to Bafoussam on March 5, 2025. This strategic move aims to facilitate “efficient and affordable” transportation solutions and is designed to offer new employment opportunities for residents in the region.
Yango’s recent entry into Bafoussam marks the initial phase of a larger expansion initiative. The company has successfully renewed its operating license for five years, with plans to broaden its reach into more urban areas, although specific future locations were not disclosed.
Since beginning operations, Yango has attracted a substantial user base, boasting over 150,000 active participants monthly. Despite encountering challenges, such as a temporary service suspension by the Minister of Transport in February 2023 due to licensing complications, Yango resumed its operations seven months later and is now fully active again.
Yango recognizes Cameroon as a market with significant potential and strives to enhance urban transport systems, which have historically been inadequate. With an established presence in 20 countries across various regions, Yango aspires to become a vital contributor to Cameroon’s transportation sector by delivering reliable and value-driven services.
In summary, Yango has made a substantial impact in Cameroon by creating over 6,000 jobs since its inception. The recent expansion into Bafoussam illustrates the company’s commitment to providing accessible transportation services while targeting further growth across the nation. Despite facing some regulatory challenges, Yango continues to establish itself as a significant player in the country’s evolving transport landscape.
