His agenda included meetings with key Mexican officials such as Rosa Icela Rodriguez, the Minister of Gobernación; Arturo Medina Padilla, the Undersecretary for Governance; Hector Elizalde, the Undersecretary for Security; Maria Teresa Mercado, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs; Rafael Guerra, the President of the Court of Justice of Mexico City; and Hernan Cortes Hernandez, the Commander of the National Guard.
Following a meeting at the Ministry of Security, Delmastro signed a Declaration of Intent alongside representatives from the Italian Ministry of Justice, the Mexican Ministry of Security, and the Rome-based United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (Unicri). This declaration aims to enhance collaboration in combating organized crime, improving criminal justice and penitentiary systems, and addressing extortion and corruption, under Unicri’s auspices.
Delmastro concluded his mission with a visit to the federal women’s penitentiary in Morelos and a working lunch at the Istituto Mexicano para la Justicia (Imjus). He expressed, ‘My second mission to Mexico was aimed at agreeing with the new Mexican government authorities on the path to further strengthen the already solid cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice and security.’ He indicated that both countries are committed to bolstering their partnership in the fight against organized crime, underscoring Mexico’s role as a reliable partner and a stable democracy.
