On Wednesday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal engaged in a telephonic dialogue with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, wherein Nepal reiterated its request for Egypt’s assistance in securing the release of Bipin Joshi. Joshi has been held hostage by Hamas militants since October 7, 2023. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude for Egypt’s role in mediating the Gaza ceasefire and called upon President Al-Sisi to continue his diplomatic efforts for Joshi’s release.
President Al-Sisi assured Prime Minister Oli that efforts to facilitate the release of all remaining hostages, including Joshi, would be prioritized during the next phase of the hostage exchange. The current situation of Joshi, a Nepali national abducted while participating in an agricultural study program in Israel, remains unclear. He was taken hostage along with numerous other individuals during Hamas’s recent attacks, with many still in captivity.
