Halimah Nakaayi will represent Uganda as the sole athlete at the upcoming World Indoor Athletics Championships, taking place from March 21 to 23 in Nanjing, China. Dominic Otuchet, the President of the Uganda Athletics Federation, confirmed that Nakaayi is the only runner who qualified for the 800m event.

Otuchet noted the disappointment in not having more athletes qualify, attributing the shortfall to subpar performances due to cold weather conditions encountered in various European races.

Nakaayi, aged 30, holds the Ugandan record for the women’s 800m. She is also distinguished for winning a gold medal in the same event at the 2019 World Championships held in Doha, Qatar.

In conclusion, Halimah Nakaayi stands out as Uganda’s lone representative at the World Indoor Athletics Championships. With her impressive background and achievements, she will compete in the 800m race amidst the challenges faced by fellow athletes in qualifying due to adverse weather conditions. Her participation reflects both her personal success and the potential of Ugandan athletics on an international stage.
