Petrobras Pursues Growth in Argentina, Colombia, and Africa

Petrobras is exploring opportunities in Argentina, advancing projects in Colombia and Africa. The firm is interested in gas from the Vaca Muerta region and oil prospects in Argentina to replenish reserves amidst domestic challenges. In Colombia, a significant offshore gas discovery awaits government approval, while drilling in Africa is set to commence in the coming months.

Petrobras is actively pursuing new opportunities in Argentina, while also progressing with projects in Colombia and Africa, as stated by Sylvia dos Anjos, the firm’s head of exploration and production. Gas reserves from Argentina’s Vaca Muerta region are of particular interest, as a pipeline connecting Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil could facilitate transport.

Moreover, Petrobras is keen on exploring oil prospects in Argentina to replenish its reserves amidst challenges in securing environmental licenses for drilling in Brazil. In Colombia, the company is formulating a development plan for an offshore project, where approximately 6 trillion cubic feet of gas has been identified, pending government approval for licensing.

From this offshore project, Petrobras aims to supply around 13 million cubic meters of gas daily to Colombia via pipeline. Looking towards Africa, the company plans to drill exploratory wells between July and August in an oil block situated in São Tomé and Príncipe. Additional drilling in South Africa is anticipated in the latter part of the year, according to the executive.

In summary, Petrobras is strategically expanding its explorative efforts in Argentina, Colombia, and Africa. The focus on gas from the Vaca Muerta region and oil exploration underscores the company’s initiative to enhance its oil reserves amid domestic limitations. The development of offshore projects in Colombia and the anticipated drilling activities in Africa reflect Petrobras’ commitment to tapping into international resources to drive growth and sustainability.
