The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) successfully collected N$3.4 million in revenue through its whistleblower hotline, showcasing the initiative’s effectiveness in fighting tax evasion and other illegal activities. Initiated in 2023 and fully operational since May 2024, the hotline is managed by Deloitte Namibia and has proven to be a crucial asset in enhancing transparency and accountability.
To date, the hotline has received a total of 60 reports addressing serious issues such as fraud, corruption, tax evasion, alleged money laundering, drug smuggling, and unethical practices. Yarukeekuro Steven Ndorokaze, the chief strategic communications officer at NamRA, stated that the initiative has significantly impacted tax recovery, revealing that N$15.8 million was raised in assessments, with N$3.4 million recovered from three companies in November and December 2024.
Ndorokaze emphasized that this milestone demonstrates the hotline’s role in fostering compliance, ethical governance, and responsible tax administration. He encouraged taxpayers and stakeholders to actively utilize the Whistleblowing Hotline to enhance tax compliance and uphold integrity in Namibia’s tax system.
