Among the projects inaugurated was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation located in Reduit, Mauritius. Funded by a US$ 4.74 million grant under a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet the training needs of Mauritian civil servants across various government sectors.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi announced new initiatives, including India’s cooperation in constructing a new Parliament building as a gift to Mauritius, modernizing a 100 km water pipeline, and launching additional community development projects worth 500 million Mauritian Rupees in their second phase. Notably, plans were also made for training 500 Mauritian civil servants in India over the next five years.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between India and Mauritius, highlighting not only their geographical connection but also their shared culture and values. He reinforced that both nations have steadfastly supported each other through various challenges, including natural disasters and the COVID pandemic.
Citing significant accomplishments, he noted numerous projects completed with Indian assistance, such as the Metro Express, which enhances transportation, and other critical infrastructures like the Supreme Court Building, social housing, the ENT Hospital, as well as initiatives to facilitate trade through UPI and RuPay Cards.
