On March 11, 2025, in Geneva, the State of Qatar reiterated its strong dedication to combating terrorism through various forms of cooperation, namely bilateral, regional, and multilateral engagements. This commitment includes supporting numerous counter-terrorism initiatives, such as hosting the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism’s (UNOCT) International Hub on Behavioral Insights to Counter-Terrorism and its Program Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism.
Hamad Nasser Hamad Al Suwaidi, Third Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ International Organizations Department, made these remarks during an interactive dialogue at the Human Rights Council’s 58th session. He highlighted the significant contributions of regional organizations and civil society in addressing the underlying causes of terrorism and violent extremism, emphasizing the need for compliance with international laws and standards in counter-terrorism measures.
Al Suwaidi also pointed out that terrorism represents a grave threat to international peace, human rights, and the goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He remarked that violations of human rights and inadequate developmental progress create conditions that foster terrorism.
Furthermore, Al Suwaidi underscored the vital importance of implementing the Pact for the Future, particularly Action 23, which seeks to establish a world free from terrorism through comprehensive strategies and enhanced coordination among the UN and relevant regional organizations, all in alignment with international law.
