The PSC has released a notice regarding 205 clerical officers who failed the September 2024 proficiency exam, outlining the subjects they must retake. Notably, Human Resource Services was a common failure. In contrast, 673 candidates successfully passed the exam, reflecting the broader performance of clerical staff in various government departments.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has published a notice regarding 205 individuals who did not pass the proficiency examination for clerical officers conducted in September 2024. The Kenya Gazette issued on March 7 details the subjects each candidate failed and mandates them to resit those specific subjects.
The statement specified, “The following two hundred and five (205) candidates did not pass the Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers held from September 23 to 26, 2024. They are expected to resit the subject(s) indicated against their names.” Among the subjects, Human Resource Services emerged as the most commonly failed subject across numerous ministries.
In addition to Human Resource Services, candidates also struggled with subjects such as communication skills, supply services, records management, and accounts. The examinees hailed from various government ministries and state departments, predominantly from the Interior and National Administration Ministry.
Other ministries, including Public Service, Defence, Education, National Treasury, as well as the East Africa Community and Regional Development, also experienced failures among their candidates. Additionally, candidates from the county governments of Nakuru, Taita Taveta, and Turkana were included in the list of those who did not pass.
Notably, one male candidate from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration had his results annulled due to examination irregularities. The PSC stated, “The following one (1) candidate was involved in an examination irregularity and his results have been canceled.”
Despite the challenges faced by the 205 candidates, a total of 673 clerical officers successfully passed the examination, with their names and subjects specified in the same notice. The notification stated, “It is notified for general information that the following Six Hundred and Seventy Three (673) Candidates passed the Proficiency Examination For Clerical Officers’ Held from 23rd to 26th September 2024. The Elective Subject is indicated against their name.”
In conclusion, the PSC has identified 205 clerical officers who failed their proficiency examination and will require them to resit certain subjects. The overarching trend indicates a significant struggle particularly in Human Resource Services. On a positive note, a large group of 673 candidates successfully passed the examination, showcasing the achievements of many public servants despite the failures observed.
