Petrobras Expands Horizons: Pursuing Opportunities in Argentina and Beyond

Petrobras is exploring opportunities in Argentina, advancing projects in Colombia and Africa. The company is interested in Vaca Muerta gas, oil reserves replenishment, and has ongoing offshore developments in Colombia. Additionally, exploratory drilling is planned in São Tomé and Príncipe and South Africa.

Petrobras, the Brazilian state-run oil corporation, is actively exploring prospects in Argentina while pursuing projects in Colombia and Africa, as stated by the exploration and production head, Sylvia dos Anjos. During the CERAWeek conference in Houston, she mentioned that natural gas from the Vaca Muerta region in Argentina is of significant interest to Petrobras, especially with a pipeline that could connect Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil for transportation.

In addition to gas, Petrobras is also considering oil opportunities in Argentina to replenish its reserves, particularly due to challenges in securing environmental licenses for drilling within Brazil. In Colombia, the firm is formulating a development plan for an offshore project where 6 trillion cubic feet of gas has been discovered and is currently awaiting government licensing.

Anjos indicated that the project anticipates supplying approximately 13 million cubic meters of gas per day to Colombia via pipeline. In Africa, Petrobras plans to drill exploratory wells in an oil block in São Tomé and Príncipe between July and August. Furthermore, another drilling operation is expected to take place in a region of South Africa in the latter half of the year.

In conclusion, Petrobras is strategically focusing on opportunities in Argentina to supplement its oil reserves, while simultaneously advancing gas projects in Colombia and exploring oil blocks in Africa. The company’s initiatives highlight a proactive approach to overcoming domestic challenges and expanding its presence in international markets.
