During the ceremony, PM Ramgoolam emphasized the significance of the award, stating, “The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean is very fitting for you, Prime Minister.” He elaborated that since Mauritius became a Republic, only five foreign dignitaries have received this honour, including Nelson Mandela, dubbed the ‘Gandhi of Africa.’
The announcement was made at an event attended by both Prime Ministers, where the national anthems of India and Mauritius resonated. Furthermore, he toured the Ayurveda garden at the State House, developed in cooperation with the Government of India, alongside the President of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool.
