The Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital has reported the removal of over 1.3 million harmful online content pieces, including pornography and gambling, between October 2024 and March 2025. This achievement is attributed to the active participation of the public in the monitoring process.
Among the removed content, 233,552 items were categorized as pornography, with the majority, 219,578 cases, being attributed to websites. Notably, Platform X (formerly Twitter) accounted for 10,173 instances, while other platforms contributed 3,801 cases.
In the realm of online gambling, approximately 1.12 million instances of harmful content were eliminated. Websites and IP addresses were responsible for 1.02 million cases, while Meta (including Facebook and Instagram) accounted for 46,207 instances, with the remainder being sourced from various platforms.
Alexander Sabar, the director-general of digital oversight, acknowledged the progress but emphasized the continuing challenge of managing harmful online content. He highlighted that within the first eight days of March 2025, over 58,000 pieces of such content had already been addressed, underscoring the persistent nature of this issue.
To enhance the fight against harmful content, the ministry intends to further develop its AI-driven monitoring system and collaborate with international digital platforms to facilitate more effective enforcement actions. This reporting platform enables individuals to submit links or screenshots and provide rationale for their concerns.
