Cyclone ‘JUDE’, located near the Mozambique Channel, is forecasted to influence increased rainfall across parts of Tanzania. TMA advises the public and marine users to stay informed and heed expert guidance. Although the cyclone is expected to weaken, it coincides with the onset of the long rains season and requires vigilance from citizens.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has reported the emergence of Cyclone ‘JUDE’ in the Indian Ocean, near the Mozambique Channel, forecasting significant rainfall in several regions of Tanzania. In a statement released on March 10, TMA indicated that the cyclone is anticipated to make landfall in Mozambique later that day, after which it is projected to weaken.
TMA clarified that although Cyclone ‘JUDE’ will likely return to the ocean and regain strength between March 13 and 15, 2025, its current path suggests minimal direct impacts on Tanzania. Nevertheless, its presence is expected to influence local weather systems, coinciding with the start of the Masika, or long rains, season, which affects regions with dual rainy seasons.
In light of these developments, TMA has advised marine users and the public to remain informed through updates on weather forecasts and to heed guidance from experts. The agency stated it is actively monitoring the cyclone’s progression and its implications for Tanzania’s weather, pledging to provide necessary updates as conditions evolve.
Previously, in January of this year, TMA had issued warnings regarding Cyclone Dikeledi, which was also located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mozambique. TMA has reiterated the importance of vigilance among citizens as they adapt to changing weather conditions.
In summary, Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is expected to influence rainfall patterns in Tanzania, coinciding with the onset of the Masika season. Though direct impacts are deemed minimal, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority urges the public to stay informed and vigilant regarding potential weather developments. Updates will be communicated as the situation progresses.
