The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Qatar hosted the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva, aligning with the 58th session of the Human Rights Council. Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti led a delegation that included key figures from the judiciary and various international organizations. This day, adopted by the UN General Assembly, underscores Qatar’s commitment to promoting gender equality in the judiciary.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in collaboration with the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the United Nations Human Rights Council, commemorated the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva. This significant event was part of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council.
Leading the SJC delegation was Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti, Senior Judge at the Court of Appeal, accompanied by First Deputy President Fatima Al Mal and Judge Aisha Al Emadi, along with various other directors from specialized administrative units of the Council.
Numerous national and international organizations contributed to the celebrations, including the National Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Association of Women Judges, which is based in Washington, D.C.
The International Day of Women Judges was formally adopted during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, following a proposal by the State of Qatar. This initiative highlights Qatar’s commitment to advancing gender equality in the judiciary, directly aligning with the sustainable development goals and Qatar National Vision 2030.
