The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) excelled during the final day of the 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship, held at Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki, securing multiple prestigious titles. The event hosted 64 elite shooters from various organizations including the KDF Rifle Association and the British Royal Air Force, focusing on enhancing marksmanship skills across distances ranging from 300 to 900 meters.
Participants competed for notable awards such as the McCallum Cup, Standard Newspaper Cup, and the Bob Morgan Memorial Cup. Challenging shooting conditions required competitors to demonstrate their ability in long-range shooting while adjusting for wind and mirage effects, all within a 45-second time limit.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema stood out by winning the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and the Short Range Aggregate Cup in Class XI. He also secured a bronze in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Other commendable performances included Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo’s silver medal in the same cup and various recognitions among fellow KDF personnel.
Notably, Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo were honored as the top female shooters of the tournament. In preparation for future competitions, ten KDF personnel were selected to represent Kenya at the Bisley competition in the United Kingdom later this year.
